On Page SEO Checklist

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) consists of on-page SEO (on the website) and off-page SEO (not on website) techniques to improve rankings on search engines including Google, Yahoo, Bing etc. for a website or mobile app. A search engine evaluates the relevancy of your content on your website or mobile app such as text, videos, images and ranks individual pages accordingly on the search engine results pages (SERPs).

Some important on-page SEO Tips are presented below:

Page Titles:

  • Make sure your page title is SEO friendly and is relevant to your topic.
  • Every webpage and post of your website must have its own unique title, which includes the primary keywords for that page.
  • For instance, if you write a blog post about a new cheesecake, it is important that you include “Cheesecake Recipe” within your blog title or may be “Easy Cheesecake Recipe” or “Cheesecake Recipe for Kids”. Whenever someone searches for “Cheesecake Recipes” in a search engine, your blog post will be shown up because of the relevant keywords you have included in your title.

Meta Description:

A meta description is an attribute within a meta tag that helps to describe your page to various search engines. Many people forget to include meta descriptions in their web pages.  But it is important to include meta description within your pages for better results in search engines.

  • Meta description has a significant impact on your search engine optimization efforts.
  • You must include relevant keywords in your meta description for better ranking of a page on a keyword search. Our San Diego SEO Consultants can help you out with these kinds of optimizations.
  • For example, if we keep using the “Cheesecake Recipe” example, then a good meta description for that would include relevant keywords and other related keywords.   ‘This easy cheesecake recipe is possibly the most delicious, mouth watering, cheesecake ever made.’ It would be a great description to include because it is relatively short while containing a number of specific keywords.

  • Meta tags can be incorporated to provide information to all sorts of consumers.

  • You must include meta tag keywords, meta description, and page titles at the bottom of every post before you publish it if you are using a WordPress plugin.  This easily inserts all of the information in the HTML format for you making your task a little easier.

  • During the web development process you should ensure that your URL structure should be user friendly.
  • Your website must have a better search engine URLs because they bring better crawling.  Therefore, there are some factors that make a search engine URL better.  One of the factors is shorter search engine URLs.  Shorter URLs seem to perform better in search engine results.  For example Google states that the first 3 to 5 words in an URL are given the most weight.
  • Targeted keywords are another one of these factors.  The location of these keywords is important.  For instance site.com/keyword would perform better than site.com/365/738/subfolder/keyword etc. because the word “keyword” in the shorter URL would be relevant.

Body Tags:

The body tag contains the code that generates what is seen in a web browser. This is what you see on your computer screen when you open a web page, and most of the work you do is on code found between the opening and closing body tag.

  • While writing an article, you must break up your content into smaller paragraphs and sections to make it easier for people to read.  These sections can be given a heading with tags using H1, H2, H3, H4 and so on.
  • H1 tags must be included in the main page title with subsequent headings being included such as H2, H3, and so on.
  • Search engines use these tags to determine what is important in your content.  This is why keyword rich headlines are more important than generic keywords.

Relevant Keywords:

  • Your keywords must be relevant to your products or services.
  • Customers are more likely to click your ad as they search for specific terms, which can help improve your clickthrough rate (CTR) and Quality Score.
  • Include relevant keywords to help people find your website when surfing the web via Google, Yahoo! and Bing.
